TECH RESEARCHER'S ADAPTIVE SOFTWARE RESOURCE MAY HOLD NEW TEACHING IDEAS
August 29, 2005 - Parents and educators looking for additional ways to help students with vision or language-related disabilities may find some new ideas at a web site operated by Montreal-based Dawson College. Dawson's Adaptech Research Network has outlined more than 100 software programs available online for little or no fee that provide assistance with text-to-speech translation, basic vocabulary learning, time management and several other functions. For students with access to a computer or, in some cases, a handheld electronic organizer, these programs could serve as interesting new learning tools.
SOFTWARE INDUSTRY AWARDS HONOR ONE SPECIAL ED PRODUCT DEVELOPER; NOMINATIONS CLOSE OCT. 14
August 23, 2005 - The Software & Information Industry Association recently issued a call for nominations for its annual Codie Awards, which recognize outstanding software, content and education technology products. Nominations are due October 14, and winners will be announced next spring. Past honorees include Tom Snyder Productions, Kurzweil Educational Systems, and Digital Frog International.
NCLD, NEA HONOR THREE EDUCATORS FOR SPECIAL ED EFFORTS
March 8, 2004 - In separate award competitions recently, the National Center for Learning Disabilities and the National Education Association honored educators in California, Washington and Ohio for their work with kids with special needs.
LEVINE, MIKOL NAMED CHAMPIONS FOR CHILDREN
March 1, 2004 - Two people who have worked hard to improve the lives of children with disabilities and their families were recently saluted by Child Magazine's Children's Champions Awards. The awards, the magazine says, celebrate the work of "six men and women who are truly making a difference for the next generation."
